SBL Shootaround will provide weekly podcasts for the Women’s and Men’s West Australian state league competition, presented by Chris Pike Basketball.
The Women’s show will be co-hosted by Randy Miegel, who recently coached the Mandurah Magic for five seasons in the SBL and took them to two consecutive Grand Finals. He was also named the Women’s SBL Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2017.
During his 166-game playing career, he was also a star with the Goldfields Giants and was named captain of their 20th anniversary team.
The Men’s show will be co-hosted by Ben Ettridge, who has built a remarkable legacy in basketball in WA and Australia coaching the national wheelchair teams on top of his playing and coaching feats in the SBL.
Ettridge has been heavily involved in national wheelchair programs much of his life and it included a 10-year stint coaching the Australian Rollers where he won five Asia Oceania championships, two world championships and a Paralympics Gold Medal.
He also coached the Perth Wheelcats to four National Wheelchair Basketball League championships while being named NWBL Coach of the Year three times.
Then there are his SBL accomplishments, beginning with playing 218 games between the Cockburn Cougars, Willetton Tigers, Mandurah Magic and Perth Redbacks.
As coach, Ettridge was in charge of the Joondalup Wolves up until the end of 2019 and remarkable took them to the last five SBL Grand Finals. He coached the Wolfpack to six Grand Finals overall for two championships in 221 games for a 174-47 record.
In seven seasons, he never finished short of a semi-final appearance with the Wolves.
